I’m not sure how to take this next piece of news. For the gaming industry, can it be good ? Or will it be another painful demise to a pretty productive developer ? Only time will tell now.
I know, you’re thinking to yoursef, “Umm.. just tell us already !”. Well then, here ya go; MTV is set to buy up the Guitar Hero devloper, Harmonix Music Systems. This move will put MTVs parent company, Viacom, a step closer to gaming. This isn’t going to be cheap either. The price tag ? How about $175 million ! I guess when you have it, you can spend it. Harmonix Music Systems has provided games such as Frequency and Amplitude, and Konami’s Karaoke Revolution series. Harmonix’s next game to hit the gamers will be Guitar Hero 2 for the PS2. It is expected to arrive in stores this November.
This certainly isn’t the first time the company has stepped into the gaming arena. The company has recently purchased XFire for a cool $102 million. MTV Networks also includes products such as GameTrailers.com, and NeoPets.
