EA Sports and 2K Sports have also announced which players will grace the covers of their 2007 hockey titles.

EA Games went with Washington Capitals left-winger Alexander Ovechkin for the cover of NHL O7. This newcomer has been in the league for only two years, but he has an outstanding season in 2005-2006 finishing third in the NHL for both total points and goals.

For NHL 2K7, 2K Sports went with veteran hockey superstar Joe Thorton of the San Jose Sharks. Thorton has had an absolutely fantastic NHL career and is expected to retire soon making this a strange choice for cover of the hockey game. Regardless, Thorton is expected by many to win the MVP award this year and was the league leader in total points.

Both of these games will be released later this fall.
