DS Lite Launched

The Nintendo DS Lite has finally been released in North America and other parts of the world. The DS Lite is Nintendo’s newest dual screen gaming machine built to compete against Sony’s Playstation Portable. The DS Lite was introduced just today and old out within hours, especially in many major cities such as New York City. Do not expect to find the portable console online either as Amazon, Gamestop, EB Games, Best Buy, Circuit City, and numerous others have already sold out. Avid gamers and Nintendo fans waited outside the Nintendo World Store in New York City for more than 10 hours to try and get a copy of the new console. The console will retail for just under $130 in the United States.

So, how is the Nintendo DS Lite different from the original Nintendo DS launched a few years ago? Well, for starters, as the name suggests the Nintendo DS is smaller and more compact than the original handheld console as it is less than 2/3 the size of the original handheld console and is 20% lighter than the regular DS. The touch screen and microphone make the DS Lite one of the best handheld gaming systems to own right now, if you can get your hands on one. Almost every retailer is sold out and we will probably soon see these consoles popping up on eBay for far more than their retail value, at least until Nintendo decides to create and ship more versions of the DS Lite to North America, where demand is very high. This should not surprise us though. If we can look back more recently to the launch of the XBOX 360 or further back to the launch of the Playstation 2, these consoles both were in very high demand at first and sold like wildfire, with most outlets selling out in just a few hours.

It will likely be a few months before the console becomes available for everyone who wants one to buy them, but until then Nintendo fans will have to wait eagerly or travel overseas for a chance to get one of these prized systems. Part of the reason the system has become so popular is because of the vast number of games that were released for it and are in their production and prerelease phases right now.

We will keep you posted on any changes as they develop and where the Nintendo DS Lite becomes available when more orders are shipped in. Be sure to stay tuned to VideoGameNews.org for more information on the DS Lite.
