PAX was really the place to be when it came to fun releases for the online market. This little title will be gracing the PlayStation Network later this year. It’s basically just a really nice tower defense game. If you don’t know what this is, then it is basically just a quick version of an RTS. You put down defensive towers to stem back a nearly endless wave of enemies. Savage Moon features a complex base defence against hordes of bugs. Details are really sketchy, but one can only image what the multiplayer would be like. If you enjoy the genre, then this nice title should be a great game for some quick fun.

This sequel looks like it could really step up and be amazing. The single player has been amped up a bit for more intense play, but they’re a little tight lipped about it for now. The good news comes from the multiplayer arena. There is a separate and full co-op campaign that can host up to eight players at a time. That pales in comparison to the multiplayer, which promises up to 60 people in multi-level maps. I hope that they can pull off Team Fortress’ success with the complex battlefields.

You get to shotgun werewolves and shoot rockets at griffins. Do I honestly have to say anything else? This looks like a really cool first-person shooter. It’s basically the same as Call of Duty in it’s interface. You’ll just be fighting hordes of mythical creatures instead of the usual Germans. This really looks amazing with a good variety amongst the enemies. Early reports are that you’ll actually have to alter your gameplay. For example, you must blow a werewolf’s head off to kill it for good. This isn’t just some cheap game, they really seem to be playing up the monsters. I’m hoping this is as good as it looks when it’s released on September 30th.

I honestly don’t even know what to say about this game. It combines basic platforming with full physics games. Each level basically works like a little playground with a ton of ways to win. You can build platforms with sticks, use stickers on walls, play around with dark matter, navigate bridges, etc. I don’t think a basic platformer has ever looked so polished and good.

The big draw is all the social options though. User-created content is at the forefront. The level designer is really intuitive and even lets the creator build custom rewards and bonus levels for anyone who beats it. The whole idea of this just sounds fun. I just hope that good community forms around it to keep the quality content flowing.

The release date has been pushed back a month to October 21st, but this should just let them tweak it to perfection.

This should be a fun treat for fans of the series. This isn’t a full sequel to Tools of Destruction. Instead, it focuses on about 4 hours of solid platforming as Ratchet tries to find out what happened to Clank. Clank’s absence means some serious changes for the gameplay. More efforts have been put into acrobatics and wrench play. The wrench now has the ability to act as a grappling hook or even a light gravity gun. The best news is that it will be available for download through the PlayStation Network for $14.95 on August 21st.

Resident Evil 5 just demonstrated a few new levels for their game right as they gave the release date (March 13th 2009). It included all the standard Resident Evil stuff. There are mobs of crazed enemies and lots of intense running and fighting. The graphics are sharp too. That’s really all I can say. They didn’t try to reinvent the wheel with this one so it doesn’t seem like much has changed from RE 4.

The one cool addition was Co-Op play. The two demonstrations featured Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar. You will have a AI partner for single player with some hope for a good Co-Op game. The big bonus was how intuitive the AI was. Chris could order Sheva to help secure objectives or pick up ammo, but she would often act in a fairly intelligent manner on her own. The AI seems competent in battle which should keep this from falling into babysitting duty. There are plenty of gimmicky partner stuff too, but I think the big draw should be just how well they’ve advanced the AI for a good partner shooter.

The latest look at Far Cry 2 is pretty promising. They just unleashed a nighttime demonstration for the Pipeline mission. In general it holds all the basics of Far Cry that the old fans will like. You can sneak around and use silenced darts to knock out guards and eventually rush in to finish the rest off. The mechanics look smooth and the tactics seem to be amped up a bit.

More important though is the consideration that is being put into this. Ubisoft will truly give the player choice in how to tackle the missions. The game will move at only a slightly advanced pace, meaning that you will have a full six hours of daylight and six hours of night for missions. Being able to sleep at safe houses means that you can always choose the time for your attack. You can try a daring daytime raid or a stealthy advance. It may not be an incredible innovation, but it is nice to see an advance in nonlinear gameplay.
