This looks like a fun little title from Nintendo. Wario is back for some old side scrolling adventures and they are all centered around the Wii’s shake ability. You basically do just about everything in the game by shaking or turn the wiimote. Movement is still standard side scroller action, but Wario’s special moves are all shake-based. The one really interesting aspect to the gameplay was the alarm system. You grab a special being at a point in each of the five main levels and then have to race back to the start and beat an alarm. It was a bit of a nice twist on the genre. There’s also zany levels and bosses but that basically goes without saying in a Wario platformer. If any of this sounds cool just keep an eye out for it’s release in a few days on the 22nd.

This title should make a nice addition to the Wii’s lineup. It basically looks like they took the combat system of Metroid Prime and applied it to a Half-Life style of gameplay. It looks great with some glimpses at exotic weapons and tactics. The short story is that you’re a secret agent basically working for MIB (called “The Trust” for legal reasons). Only an early build was on display so some of the intricacies are still under wraps, but there’s talk of some major multiplayer options to round out the package. Keep an eye out for this one at the beginning of next year.

Madworld has certainly been picking up a lot of controversy, despite the lack of gameplay footage. We now have a good look at what we’ll be getting. It looks amazing. Everybody around the gaming world should know the basics. You are a man fighting in Running Man style matches to please the masses in the cel-shaded universe. Some new gameplay footage really shows off the extra bits that separate this from Manhunt or Mortal Kombat. You can use your mix of punches, kicks, and chainsaw slashes to fight through the levels, but you can also pick up and switch to various other weapons besides the basic environmental stuff. One basic runthrough showed the pace. You kill off some goons and get into a chainsaw duel (which should be particularly good use for the Wii control) as a cheesy announcer cracks jokes. The really impressive bits were the bonuses for environmental weapons. You don’t just smack people with signs. You can do some fairly inventive things for extra reputation and points. One instance showed the ability to trap them in a tire and throw them into the water. Basic vehicle fighting sections and non-fighting levels were shown. These little extras should serve as a nice way to break up the gameplay.

This new title for the Wii doesn’t need a big explanation. It is basically just a more serious verious of the other cooking games available for the Wii. The first demonstration was just at PAX and it was only a minor presentation. That said, there have been plenty of statements concerning the features. You will be able to pick your own secret ingredients for quick battles against friends through the multiplayer, or you can choose to fight your way to the rank of Iron Chef. Your skill in the minigames is ultimately judged when you present the finished dishes to the panel. The cooking looks fairly realistic with over 300 minigames promised in the finished game. If you like this genre, then it should be an enjoyable addition to the Wii. Keep an eye out for it when it’s released on October 21st.

This looks like a novel little title, especially now that we’ve seen a bit of the gameplay. Not too much to say about it. You take the roll of a little paint sponge roaming through a fairly open environment. You can jump from point to point or take the time to paint the graying buildings in the city. It may not be as innovative as Okami, but it does look like an entertaining platformer for the Wii. It is expected to come out on September 22nd.

This and the stripper pole game should effectively destroy the idea of the Wii as a kid’s toy. There isn’t a whole lot to say about this game. You will control different girls in bikini’s and kill a bunch of zombies in a fun arcade setting. I doubt it will be the key factor in the console war, but there is something truly amazing about being able to wave around a remote and slice up zombies. Throw in a girl in a bikini and I’m sold.

If you like zombies and girls, then watch for this to come out in 2009.

Still can’t find that Nintendo Wii you’ve been after, huh? Who can Blame you? You’d be lucky if you had a store that kept their Wii shipments in longer than just a few hours after they arrived. Something that sells that well must be great, right?
Wrong. I came across an interesting article today that basically states this: The Wii sucks. You know it, I know it, we all know it. The quality of games that has come out for Nintendo’s little system have ranged from crap to.. well.. crap.

Yes, I know. There are the occasional Gems like Twilight Princess, Brawl, Mario Galaxy, and Zack and Wiki.. But on the whole, the Wii doesn’t have much to offer for anybody above the age of 8.

The article states that:

“Since its release in 2005, there have been some 374 games released for the XBox 360. Of the 374, 86 titles have received a ‘good’ rating(an average ranking of 80% or higher, as per GameRankings). 92 have received ‘poor’ ratings(an average of lower than 60%). That means about 26% of the games for the 360 are ‘good’, and about 24% are considered trash. The PS3 has seen 122 games released, with 40(33%) good games and 20(17%) poor games(ironic considering the most common argument against the PS3 is a lack of good games).

The Wii, released alongside the PS3 in November 2006, has seen a considerable 189 games released. Of these titles, a whoping 69, or 37% are complete trash. On the flipside, there are only 20 good games, making up a minuscule 11% – and of those 20, 4 of them are ports of last generation PS2/Gamecube games! What happened?”

What happened, Nintendo? We all fell in love with that tiny little console before launch. Sure, you came out with a name we all snickered at for a few weeks.. But we learned to love it. Now you’re just dropping the ball. Add some quality control, Nintendo. Please.

Hit the link to read the full article. It’s quite a good read.
