Many people (hardcore people) hail Metal Slug as the holy grail of 2d shoot em up gaming. And they might be right, the series has been a hit for a while now, giving Mega Man and Contra a good run for their money. The next installation is coming to the DS, and as shown in the trailer below, will be out 11/18/08. The trailer highlights some gameplay, all on the upper screen, but not that Metal Slug would need the touch screen though.

There’s something new for owners of the DS and the Wii. “Secret Files: Tunguska” offers a point-and-click adventure game for fans of the old school. I’m surprised that there aren’t more point-and-click games for these consoles since they are particularly suited for the genre. Regardless, this looks decent. The story revolves around solving the mystery of the Tunguska Incident. The good news is that DS users don’t have to go blind looking for pixels. Clicking a magnifying glass highlights all of the objects that your character can interact with. An interesting game for the adventure genre. Keep an eye out for it this October.

This new addition to the Civilization series will be released on July 8th. It will take the series in a radical new direction though. This version was built specifically for handhelds and consoles. Gameplay is shorter with faster gameplay options overall. This should make it perfect for quick multiplayer games or for killing some time while you’re out. If you’re interested in trying your hand at the Civilization series or if you’re an old fan who wants a portable version, keep your eyes out for this release. It will also be available for XBox 360 and PS3.

Square Enix is already promising some extra content and functions to make the purchase worthy for old fans. There isn’t too much in the way of teasers though. Just a basic webpage with a ticking clock is up for now. I do hope that they don’t go crazy with the new features that they play to implement. There’s talk of better utilizing the dual screen aspects of the DS, which often leads developers down the slippery slope to gimmick land. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for this one. It might just spawn a sequal.

Gametrailers has put up the debut trailer of the latest Castlevania game, titled Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. After viewing it, I’m lefting asking this: “Konami, when will you do something new with Castlevania?” Ever since Sympthony of the Night, which is among my favorite games of all time, they’ve just been reusing that same formula with little to no tweaking. It feels like they’re just milking these games for all their worth before they’re forced to do something actually creative. I’m glad they’ve gotten rid of the generic anime art style and finally went back to their more realistic gothic style though. Check out the trailer below.

I’m one of the people who absolutely eats up all the new envisionings of the classic Final Fantasy games, and this remake of FF4 is no exception. This Trailer showcases the English voices for the first time from Cecil, Kain, Rosa, Palom, Porom, and perhaps the elder of Mysidia. From what you can hear in the Trailer, I really dig the voices for Cecil, Kain, and the Elder. Rosa is a bit meh, but she has one line…
